I found this post really interesting amongst many other things and I don’t agree with everything she says… AT ALL… none the less, it is an interesting read…

* Try going to the article and reading the comments*

All Men Love White Women, Black Women Cannot Date White Men, All Men Hate Black Women… and Why

It’s the reality that we must all face. It’s the truth that we will never accept. But there is reason… sad, demoralizing reason.

I have constantly been in search of myself and my goals for the future. Relationships tend to play a role in the way I think of my impending success, but in the guise of so much hatred and self-loathing (of others, not myself), I wonder how I will ever succeed. I am a woman of color who cannot get past race. I am in no means color-blind. And in the topic of love and relationships, I carry the preference of dating and associating with mostly only people of color.

I have never loved a white man. I say this, though I have, in my very young youth, had a very close friend that was a white male. Needless to say, we are no longer associates. I have always blamed race for our falling out. I was a smart, talented Black female, and he was a lazy, drug-addict white kid. He rode my coattails from 2nd to 8th grade, and after we graduated from middle school, he dropped out of high school and I went on to graduate from the best high school in my city and accept a full-ride from an out-of-state university (sounds like it should have been the other way around to SOME people). His dreams were built on mine; for a long time, I thought he would be my life-long partner. But reality is a bitch, and he’s what white people would consider “white trash” and I’m what white people would call “an exceptional Black scholar.” Or “one lucky nigger.” Just depends on who you’re talking to and how well their brain is connected to their mouth.

So I have decided that even though I have this higher level of education, that many of my Black brothas do not have, I will hang it in for a Black man with lesser education than a white man with equal to more education that I have. I cannot give myself up to a white man. Which is why I’m writing this, in hopes of seeing if I reasoning is similar of the same to that of a sista in my predicament.

THIS IS NOT FOR THE SHALLOW OF HEART. I AM NOT TRYING TO CODDLE ANYONE’S EGO.

Why I (A Proud Black Woman) Cannot Date a White Man

I love my people. I know my history. I know of the attempts white people have made to thwart my education (so that I hate myself and my history), which strengthens my desire to learn more about the people I love.

History. History has told me an angering story about how my ancestors, 100% African people, were kings and queens, prosperous landowners and businessmen (sounds like a fairy tale now), and wise intellectuals and teachers, who were kidnapped from their fruitful land and piled into slave “castles” without water, food, space, clothing, and cause. The savages who took my ancestors were white men. These white men, who were supposedly good Christians and believed in freedom and representation, disregarded their values and refused to extend these rights to people who had skin tones darker than their own. (Hence, I am not a Christian!)

The women of my ancestry were RAPED CONTINUOUSLY and forced to bear children who would know no love from their master-fathers, and would be shunned and mistreated by these white men’s wives, because they were the evidence of infidelity. Infidelity with a BLACK WOMAN, a woman who was not supposedly equal to a white woman, yet their husbands desired. (This is where the ORIGINAL strain of the Black-white women realtionships begins.)

I think of this every time I consider finding a white man attractive (it tends to go no farther than this). History proves that a white man only sees himself engaged with a Black woman in a sexual manner. This is proven not only in the midst of slavery, but through the Blaxploitation films of the 1960s (and the 1960s in general), and by talking to any college-aged white male (“I’d love to mess with just ONE Black chick [before I settle down with my innocent white wife]“). She may be the twist of his sexual desires, but he instictively cannot desire her for intellect and strength. He cannot see her as a good mother or an equal partner (she couldn’t protect herself from his hands as a slave, nor could she possibly have the brains to entertain a white man’s superior intellect [since she is mentally inferior]).

This is one of the reasons why many white men desire a certain type of Black woman when they claim to have a “thing” for Black women: These sistas are usually VERY dark, with natural hair (like the African slave), with slim “white women” body types and a “white” attitude (calm, supremely educated, and seemingly docile ["doormat" material, maybe?]). They are best of both worlds without really giving up any biases. They come from affluent families and have parents who are usually the “uppity” Black people all white people feel comfortable associating with. They love these women because they know these women have, for the most part, bought into the “equality” fantasy and are not going to challenge or even dig for those obvious prejudices the white male inherently carries from years of privelege and what I call “discrimination education.”

Why The Black Man (And All the Rest) Loves The White Woman

She is the epitome of beauty. Built like the 10-year-old Eminem, her coccyx is the perfect flatness to slide into those low-riders that show off… nothing. Her hair is so long and straight, she can wear it the same way for a decade and no one will be phased by her lack of creativity. And when she wants a new look, She (ooooooh) cuts/colors it. Wow.

It’s no big secret that there is nothing interesting about a white woman. Historically, she is the damsel in distress, the broad too dumb to work, and too weak and fragile to open her own door. She needed a “gentle”man so that her Barbie-esque ass wouldn’t break in half out of fragility or stupidity. And Black men, being the underappreciated, unneeded specimens that Black women have made them out to be (through becoming independant women who can support themselves and raise families alone) flocked to these creatures who couldn’t hop a street corner without assistance. Black men want to be men, and white women give them every chance to do so. They EXPECT a man who will make all of the decisions, give them all that they desire, take care of them, and they expect a certain dowry for their hand in marriage (“Show me the money”).

This is what the Black man thrives for. Control over himself, his future, and the welfare of his woman and children. These freedoms were taken away from the Black man during slavery (yes, it ALL comes back to this) and given to the white master. Black men were intentionally separated from their families during this time period. They have been forced to move and attemted to build home elsewhere. many slave men started several families throughout their lives due to their continuous selling. Time after time, he could not return to the home he just built and to the family he would have given anything to rear. These Black women went on without them and raised their children on their own. There was once a time where a male slave would buy himself out of slavery and them come back to buy his family. Slowly, a transition started where we saw the likes of Sojourner Truth and Harriet Tubman arise, where women took it upon themselves to lead escapes from masters and buying themselves and their families out of slavery. They became the breadwinners and protectors of their home, and have continuously strengthened this role to become the respect heads of thier households. They were the mother-fathers. For centuries, the Black man has attempted to win back his position as the alpha male, and has spited the Black woman for never turning control over to him again.

Which gets to…

Why All Men Hate Black Women

Black women have become so accustomed to providing for themselves, making their own decisions and being alone (“I don’t need anyone but M.E.”) that ALL men have begun to see us as an almost asexual group. And a spiteful group. Of course, we should KNOW by now that a woman’s place is behind a man, and if we curtsied and giggled at lame jokes and dreamed of being barefoot and pregnant, we would all be married. We’ve elevated our importance and role to that of a man, and that is why men are put off by us.

What have I left out? I know I sound a little angry… especially about white women. But tell ME… I could go into the legacy of Emmitt Till and how disappointed I am in Black men, but I tend to get very emotional.

If you’re like me and will probably find yourself at an Olympics party this evening, check out this list of athletes who are sure to find their names in the headlines (or faces on a Wheaties box) in the near future.

Don’t know who to root for in speed skating? Not sure if you want to bet your roommate that Canada will win more golds than ever this Olympiad? You can find the answers to these questions (and trivia to impress all your friends) right here.

1. Mirai Nagasu

Sport: Ladies’ figure skating
Nation: USA
Age: 16
Can she win? Perhaps she’ll medal.
What makes her someone to watch: There’s no pressure on her. The favorite to take the gold in this event is reigning world champ Kim Yu-Na from South Korea, and Nagasu placed second behind Rachael Flatt in the 2010 US National Championships. Much of the media focus will zero in on Flatt and Kim, leaving the door wide open for Nagasu (whose long program at Nationals was exuberant and graceful) to steal the show. Skeptical? Consider that all of the past four Olympic figure skating champions were not the favorite: Oksana Baiul, Tara Lipinski, Sarah Hughes, and Shizuka Arakawa.

Sport: Skeleton (think luge, but face down and head first!)
Nation: Canada
Age: 29
Can she win? Yes
What makes her someone to watch: In 2006, Melissa became the first Canadian to medal in skeleton at the Olympics, earning a bronze. Now she’s back to grab the top spot on the podium before a hometown crowd. If you want to catch a truly adrenaline-pumping competition while getting behind a hometown favorite, check out Hollingsworth!
Can he win? Absolutely
Why he’s someone to watch: Well, you can’t miss him, with all that red hair. But besides that, he’s shown some awesome grit (recovering from smashing his head at the X-Games just weeks ago) and staying power: he’s the defending Olympic champ in the half-pipe.

Sport: Men’s figure skating
Nation: USA
Age: 25
Can he win? He’s a contender!
Why he is someone to watch: Johnny Weir is someone to watch both literally and figuratively. He is the new face of men’s figure skating, pushing himself beyond the rink to the realms of fashion and reality television, with his show “Be Good Johnny Weir” airing Mondays on the Sundance Channel. He refuses to be a role model, often sports outrageous and intricate costumes, and has a sassy mouth. Oh, did we mention he’s competing in the Olympics? Many figure skating enthusiasts will be watching Evan Lysacek, but we’ll be hanging on every jump, turn, sequin, and smirk of Weir.

Sport: Speed Skating
Nation: USA
Age: 27
Can he win? No one is sure.
Why he is someone to watch: (Editor’s Note: He’s hot.) Shani made waves in 2006 as the first black athlete to win an individual Olympic gold medal, in the 1000m. Now he’s rousing headlines because of his fierce independence. Shani trains with no coach, no nutritionist, and no club. He refuses to practice with fellow American teammates. And he wants no part of being on an American relay team. Furthermore, unlike most speed skaters who specialize in either long or short track, Shani does both. Can his independent training schedule earn him a medal again, or will his individualist attitude get the better of him?

Hair, makeup, nails, shoes, clothes, bags… if you can name it, we are most probably spending way too much money on it. While some of these expenses can be classified as needs, the overwhelming majority are wants. For instance, who absolutely needs highlights? Is the latest lipstick color detrimental to our survival really? Most appearance related expenses can be curtailed by limiting yourself to the occasional splurge while learning to be content with how you look. And NAILS are not mandatory every week!

A clipper and some flashy or classy nailpolish done during “girls night” by the gf who paints the best can cut it!

2. Deals

This is a tricky one because by definition, a frugal girl will always be looking to pay less than full price. But sometimes we get addicted to the quest itself. And by doing so, not only do we accumulate a ton of stuff which in turn will require more cash for organization and storage, but we also end up wasting a great deal (pun intended!) of money on unnecessary things.

3. Trying to be hip

Admit it, if you’re a girl you’ve looked at the latest celebrity photos on gossip blogs or entertainment magazines and salivated over the skinny jeans, Ugg boots or ginormous ‘it-bag’ they’re sporting. It’s natural to be interested in fashion if you’re a girl, but you don’t have to act on your impulses. Fact is those celebrities have a ton more discretionary income than you or I, and chances are that they scored it for free, or are getting paid to parade it around. Yes, they are walking, talking advertisements designed to make you part with your hard earned cash and it would be foolish to fall for them.

4. Being afraid/too busy/lazy to DIY

These expenses can range from the obscure to the obvious. Minor jobs around the house for which we usually use a handyman, oil change for our car, filling out our own tax return (there’s a reason it’s called 1040EZ), preparing our own meals, doing our own manicures, hemming our own pants, managing our own finances… These are all things that if you can google, you can find a way to do yourself.

5. Diet & Fitness

Before we come to the realization that true physical fitness can only be achieved through a balanced diet and plenty of exercise, most of us girls have spent a small fortune on following the latest fad diets, appetite suppressors, fitness gadget, or other such gizmo. Years ago, I bought an ‘ab-roller’ which promised to give me tight abs if I got on my hands and knees and rolled it on the floor. (I’m sure you’ve seen those infomercials!) After many iterations of rolling and no sign of tightened abs, it ended up in the dumpster. Similarly a friend swore her appetite was curtailed after she first took some magic pills, but later wondered if it was a temporary placebo effect. And who doesn’t know a gal who owns a $700+ elliptical machine which is now gathering dust in her basement?

I’ve been guilty of all 5 of these categories. Have you? Or do you not agree with anything on this list? Can you list other ways that girls waste money?

IM on my last bit of my paycheck….

Make a change!

Facebook’s New Settings Make Stalking Easier?

It was just another daily Facebook-check when a message from Mark Zuckerberg appeared on the top of my newsfeed. Blah, blah, blah. Shut up, shut up, shut up. We know there are millions of users on Facebook – my mother is on it for God’s sake – no need to write us a message about it, Mark! (Yeah, we’re on first name basis.)

Bored, I closed the letter and contined on to my daily Facebook routine (you know you have one, too):
Check notifications
Check boyfriend’s page
Check cute guy in class’s page
Check for new photo albums of friends…

And then I typed in my ex-boyfriend’s name. We’re not friends on Facebook anymore (so dramatic), but I just have to check if he’s changed his picture! Don’t judge – you know you do it.

And that’s when I saw it. All of it. I had access to his whole entire Facebook page! And when I clicked his new girlfriend’s name – just to see if her Facebook picture had changed or to see if we had any more friends in common than we had the day before – I had complete access to her profile, too! I was able to learn all about her, see all 111 of her photo albums (Note: I’ve limited myself to only view the ones since their relationship started. No need to see her receiving her high school diploma…) and glean the fact that she is a fan of Chelsea Handler. (Ugh. Why does this girl have to be cool?)

It was like I died and went to Facebook heaven. I just wanted to reach into my computer and lay a big, wet one on Mark Zuckerberg’s face.

How did this suddenly happen? And isn’t this the exact opposite of what “Privacy Settings” are supposed to do?

Well, it turns out Mark’s letter was explaining some changes, which most users don’t know about. Namely, that they actually need to do something to maintain the privacy settings they originally set up. And since they aren’t making those changes, I (and others like me who could basically graduate with a BA in Face-stalking) are now able to access all the juicy profiles we were once locked out of.

But don’t get so excited just yet. While this is great for hunting down that skank who stole your man, it also means that your profile is open for the perusing. Even more, these new changes now share your status updates and links with everyone on the Web. And your information is also being shared with other sites, such as DIGG.

That means that you gotta hop on over to FB right now and change those privacy settings. And while you’re at it, you should probably be a little more aware of what you say on the ol’ FB because you never know who’s reading it now. An emotional quote about your latest break up may make you feel better, but it’s going to annoy your friends not going to impress your future boss.

You may like these new settings (I know I do…). You may hate them. Regardless how you feel, Mark did try and warn us. Too bad most of us weren’t willing to give up valuable stalking time to hear him out.

I don’t trust people who aren’t on Facebook.

It’s weird, I know, but FB is like peanut butter and jelly: you must be some sort of freak if you’ve never tried it. (OK, or you have some severe allergy, but that doesn’t fit with my analogy so let’s move on.) Facebook is at the epicenter of our generation’s world, so anyone who isn’t on there is weird, right? I mean, how do you live without Facebook?

How do you learn about people?
See pictures?
Know what’s going on in your friends’ lives?!
Update everyone on your own life without tons and tons of phone calls?

But maybe I’m not so weird for feeling this way. Matthew Myron, an author who recently studied online privacy, has gone as far as saying that not being on Facebook is social suicide. ”Many people feel they have to be a part of Facebook to socialize. Such sites are the modern equivalent of a mobile phone. They have grown into fashion accessories and they are a must-have for people who don’t want to be social outcasts.”

Myron speaks mostly in regards to status updates and wall posts, but his point is even truer than he knows. When people have parties, they invite guests via Facebook. When people have birthdays, we send them messages (and are notified!) via Facebook. When people have anything to say, we say it all on Facebook.

And when someone doesn’t have Facebook, we think they are freaks hiding something.

Are those things even replacements for in-person chats or phone conversations? Is someone’s profile a fair way to judge them? Probably not, but that is how we roll in “generation me” and anyone who is not a part of that will be left behind and out of the know when it comes to weekend ragers.

We may not want to admit it, but Facebook is a huge part of (and maybe the basis of) our social lives in college. Not being on there might be worse for your social status than being “that girl” at a party or keeping your door closed the first week of freshman year. Or even being that annoying status updater who lets everyone know where they are at every possible second/puts up ambiguous statements that are just begging for attention. Ugh, those people are annoying.

But at least I can Facebook-stalk them.

Seriously, even my mom has FB. If you don’t, you barely exist to me.

What do you think?
